A mental health and wellness app - Online Hackathon

2024

Overview

This year’s hackathon challenge, sponsored by Liftyz, revolved around designing an innovative AI-powered mental health app MVP (Minimum viable product) for the US market with an integrated AI Therapist, offering personalized support and education for a diverse user demographic. Participants were tasked with encouraging regular mental health self-checks and exercises to enhance well-being.

With a team of 5-6 people from around the globe, we got to dive into a real-world product design challenge. 🌍💡 From ideation to prototype, we got to network, refine skills and be a part of creating innovative solutions under the guidance of industry mentors.

Problem

Research indicates a growing need for accessible mental health resources, particularly among young adults. However, stigma and barriers to access often prevent individuals from seeking help. Our goal was to address these challenges by providing a user-friendly platform that offers support and guidance tailored to each individual's needs.

01 Research

We conducted extensive user research, including surveys and interviews, to understand the needs and preferences of our target audience. We discovered that many users desire personalized support for managing stress, anxiety, and other mental health concerns.

02 Design

With a solid understanding of user needs, we brainstormed multiple design concepts focusing on ease of use, aesthetics, and safety. Using Figma and hand-drawn sketches, we created low-fidelity prototypes to visualize our ideas.

03 Evaluate

Once we had a working prototype, we tested it with real users from our target audience. We observed how they interacted with both the meditation sessions and the AI chat, gathering feedback on usability, emotional engagement, and overall experience.

Our team set out to design a mental health and wellness app featuring an AI chatbot therapist to provide accessible emotional support. Recognizing the growing need for mental health tools that are available anytime, anywhere, we focused on creating a solution that offered empathetic, user-friendly interactions and personalized wellness recommendations. Our app integrates guided meditation sessions with an AI-powered therapist that can converse with users in real-time, offering support, coping strategies, and mindfulness exercises.
